The Centro Emofilia e Trombosi “Angelo Bianchi Bonomi” is part of the SC (Struttura Complessa) of Medicina – Emostasi e Trombosi at Policlinico di Milano. It is a recognized reference/hub center for congenital hemorrhagic diseases and thrombosis in the Lombardy region. It serves patients of all ages, from neonates / children to adults and elderly. Collaborations exist with Neonatology, Pediatrics, and many other clinical specialties as needed. The center diagnoses and treats hereditary bleeding disorders (hemophilia A & B, von Willebrand disease, rare coagulation factor deficiencies) as well as acquired disorders of coagulation. It provides ambulatory clinics for hemophilia and for bleeding screening. It also performs lifelong follow‐up: periodic checkups, specialist visits; adult patients have at least annual multidisciplinary assessments

The Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico is a public, non-profit scientific hospital and research institute (IRCCS) recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health. It integrates clinical care, research, and teaching within a single institutional framework, ensuring both autonomy and public accountability. As one of Italy’s oldest and most renowned university hospitals, affiliated with the University of Milan, it combines clinical excellence and scientific innovation, particularly in hematology, hemostasis and thrombosis, and rare diseases. Within the hemophilia field, this legal structure enables the Policlinico to act as the clinical and translational research hub of the partnership. It ensures compliance with ethical, regulatory, and data protection frameworks, provides the infrastructure for clinical trials and gene therapy implementation, and facilitates direct patient recruitment through its Centro Emofilia e Trombosi “Angelo Bianchi Bonomi.” As part of a joint consortium with the University of Milan and other partners, the Policlinico’s role complements academic and translational efforts by providing the institutional, legal, and operational foundation for the project’s clinical and research activities—bridging patient care, scientific discovery, and innovation in hemophilia treatment.

The University of Milan (UNIMI) is a major Italian public research university based in Milan. It hosts many departments in the biomedical / life sciences and medical fields, including hematology, pathology, translational medicine, and molecular biology, which enable it to contribute to research in bleeding disorders. UNIMI also houses research centers and infrastructures that coordinate interdisciplinary research across departments. Because UNIMI is primarily an academic / research institution (as opposed to a dedicated clinical hemophilia center), its contributions are more on the scientific, translational, methodological, and educational side, in collaboration with clinical centers (e.g. through hospitals, IRCCS, or networks.
